Searches carried out in Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam; agency seeks evidence linked to Pakistan-based handlers and local support network
Srinagar, August 22 :
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 10 locations across Kashmir as part of its ongoing probe into an alleged cross-border terror conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers and a network of local Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
According to a statement issued by the NIA, the searches were carried out at locations in Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam districts to recover documentary, digital and other material evidence related to the alleged conspiracy.
The agency said the operation was aimed at establishing the roles of individuals allegedly linked to the local support network and examining their suspected involvement in providing logistical assistance and other forms of support to infiltrated terrorists.
The case originated from FIR No. 0024/2026, registered at Police Station Zakoora, Srinagar, and was subsequently re-registered by the NIA as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU under Section 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act, 1959, and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
The investigation was initiated following the arrest of an alleged OGW linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during the late-night hours of March 31, 2026, at a naka point. The NIA said a hand grenade and live ammunition were allegedly recovered from his possession.
During the subsequent investigation, the agency said, alleged Pakistani terrorists connected with the conspiracy were arrested, while investigators also identified individuals suspected of being part of the local support network.
The NIA further stated that its investigation indicates that Pakistan-based handlers allegedly maintained contact with local associates who were being used for communication, logistical arrangements, movement and concealment of terrorists, shelter, reconnaissance and other forms of facilitation.
Investigators are also examining the financial trail, communication channels, movements of the accused and the source of arms and explosives to establish the wider extent of the alleged network.
The searches conducted on Saturday form part of the continuing investigation into the larger conspiracy and the alleged support mechanism facilitating cross-border terrorism, the agency said.
The NIA added that material recovered during the searches is being examined and corroborated with other evidence collected during the investigation.
The investigation remains underway to identify all persons allegedly involved and determine their respective roles. Further legal action, including arrests or recoveries, may follow based on evidence emerging during the probe, the agency said.
