NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh removed, put on “compulsory wait” in DoPT amid controversy over irregularities in exams.
Pradeep Singh Kharola has been assigned additional charge of NTA DG till further orders

Subodh Kumar Singh, Chief of the National Testing Agency (NTA), was removed from his position on Saturday (June 22) amid allegations of irregularities in the administration of the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams. Singh has been placed on compulsory wait in the Department of Personnel and Training. “NTA DG has been put on compulsory wait in the Department of Personnel and Training. Pradeep Singh Kharola has been assigned additional charge of NTA DG till further orders,” a senior official said.
The Director General of the NTA has been replaced with retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Pradeep Singh Kharola. Karola is a retired 1985 batch officer and has been appointed as his interim replacement until a regular chief is appointed or further instructions are issued.
Mr. Kharola currently serves as the Chairman and Managing Editor of the India Trade Promotion Organisation and has assumed additional responsibility as the Director General of the NTA “until the appointment of a permanent successor or until further notice.”
