Veteran Journalist Haji Karamat Qayoom Honoured with ‘Shan-e-Sahafat Award’ at Baramulla Literary Conference

BARAMULLA, JULY 21: A one-day literary conference and grand Mushaira (poetry symposium) was organised by the Baramulla Writers Forum at the Dak Bungalow in Baramulla on Monday, bringing together prominent writers, poets, intellectuals, senior journalists, authors, and members of civil society from across the district and the Kashmir Valley.
The event aimed to promote literature and culture, encourage creative expression, and highlight the importance of responsible journalism in society.

Dr Insha Nazir CEO M&Co Group was Chief Guest and amoung other dignitaries Nazir Ahmad Mir, Noted literally personality Nazir Ahmad Mir, Abdul Rashed Bhat Patron writers forum Baramulla ,Well-known Filim Maker and poet Dr Asrar Sultan Puri, Renowned poet Ranjoor Tilgami were present.

The Conference had two session one was anchored by St Journalist and poet Anzar Mohjoo and second one was anchored by Renowned poet and writer Mushtaq Kirmani.
During the Mushaira, renowned poets presented their latest works, covering themes of social harmony, human values, peace, love, and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage. The audience applauded the performances, making the literary gathering a vibrant celebration of poetry and artistic expression.


A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the ‘Shan-e-Sahafat” Award’ to senior journalist, broadcaster, and Chairman of the Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA), Haji Karamat Qayoom, in recognition of his distinguished, long-standing, and selfless contributions to journalism. The Baramulla Writers Forum honoured him for his professional integrity, responsible reporting, and consistent efforts in highlighting public issues. The award was met with warm appreciation, with participants congratulating Karamat Qayoom and acknowledging his significant contribution to the media profession.
The forum also felicitated its president, several writers, poets, literary personalities, and active members with certificates of appreciation, shields, and mementoes in recognition of their contributions to literature, culture, and social service.
Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasised that literature is the hallmark of a civilised society and that writers and poets play a vital role in shaping public thought and promoting cultural values. They stressed the need to inspire younger generations to embrace literature, reading, and creative pursuits to preserve the region’s cultural heritage.
The speakers also underlined the importance of responsible and impartial journalism, describing journalists as the voice and conscience of society who play a crucial role in bringing public issues to light and upholding the truth. They noted that literature and journalism complement each other and are essential for building an informed, progressive, and enlightened society.


The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to holding more literary and cultural events in the future to provide aspiring writers and poets with opportunities to showcase their talent and further strengthen literary and cultural activities in the region.
