New Delhi, July 5 :

The Union Government has announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will commence on July 20 and conclude on August 13, with both Houses set to meet for 19 sittings spread across 25 days to discuss significant legislative business and matters of national importance.

The schedule for the session has been approved by President Droupadi Murmu following the recommendation of the Central Government, paving the way for one of the key parliamentary sessions of the year.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju said that both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have been formally summoned for the Monsoon Session. He expressed confidence that the session would facilitate constructive debates, meaningful discussions and informed decisions on several important national issues and legislative proposals.

The forthcoming session is expected to be politically significant in the wake of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s recent electoral successes in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry. The government is likely to introduce and pursue several important Bills while also seeking the passage of pending legislation that remained unresolved during the previous session of Parliament.

Apart from legislative business, the session is also expected to witness discussions on recent political developments, including defections involving the All India Trinamool Congress and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray). Attention is also focused on the pending decision of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding pleas submitted by rebel Members of Parliament seeking recognition as separate groups.

In the Rajya Sabha, the ruling NDA has further strengthened its numerical position following the oath-taking of newly elected and re-elected members. The changed political equations in the Upper House are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the course of legislative proceedings during the session.

The Monsoon Session is anticipated to witness spirited exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches over key policy decisions, legislative reforms, governance issues and other matters of public and national interest. (KNC)
