Srinagar, July 9 :
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has launched an online petition calling for a meter-free Jammu and Kashmir, protesting against the imposition of additional financial burdens on residents.
In a statement issued to KNS, the party demands economic relief for the people of J&K, who are facing fiscal distress due to property tax, electricity meters, sand mining, soil extraction, and water meters.
The PDP argues that these measures exacerbate economic strain on citizens and demands that critical decisions impacting basic needs be made by a popular government that reflects the will of the people.
The party also calls for renegotiation with NHPC on power projects, seeking free electricity for J&K residents, as most of the region’s produced power is outsourced to other states without benefiting the region. The party urges everyone to support the petition and join the fight for justice and economic relief. “PDP is committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of J&K’s residents. Join us in our pledge for a Meter-Free J&K and ensure that the rights and needs of our people are put first,” the party statement reads. (KNS)
