NEW DELHI, May 29:

The Union Government on Friday informed the Supreme Court that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the response to the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy and the arrangements for the re-examination.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court sought details from the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on the reforms undertaken to prevent future examination breaches and restore confidence in the country’s medical entrance examination system.

The NTA informed the apex court that it has introduced major security and structural changes, including enhanced surveillance, stricter handling of question papers, improved digital safeguards and strengthened coordination with law enforcement agencies.

The matter stems from petitions seeking a comprehensive overhaul of the NTA following the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. Petitioners have alleged systemic failures in the conduct of the examination and demanded structural reforms, including stronger monitoring mechanisms.

The Supreme Court had earlier expressed concern over recurring examination leaks and sought compliance reports on recommendations made after previous controversies.

The case is being closely watched by lakhs of medical aspirants across the country, with the court expected to further examine the Centre’s reform roadmap and the steps taken by the NTA to ensure a fair and secure examination process.(KNC)
