HANDWARA, DECEMBER,17:

In a major move against drug trafficking, Police in Handwara seized a Hyundai Venue (registration number JK01AT-4651) worth Rs 10.5 lacs, allegedly bought using proceeds from illicit drug trafficking activities. The vehicle, belonging to notorious drug peddler Javeed Ahmad Sofi son of Ab Razzak Sofi resident of Khunbal Handwara, district Kupwara, was attached as part of ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace.

The action was taken under Section 68(f) (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985 and is linked to several drug-related cases, including FIR No. 193/2024, FIR No. 266/2022, and FIR No. 101/2018, under various sections of the NDPS Act. During the investigation, the vehicle was identified as an illegally acquired property, purchased from the proceeds of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the region. Local communities have supported the police’s efforts in curbing drug trafficking.`
