The School Education Department Wednesday ordered to undertake the Model G20 initiative for Higher Secondary Schools.

The department said that it would facilitate and enable them to think critically, innovate, communicate and be a change maker.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) in a communique to Chief Education Officers (CEOs) mentioned that India has assumed the Presidency of the G20 from December-01-2022 for a year.

“It is re-emphasized that India is one of the most aspirational nations and also one of the youngest with the median age being 29 years,” the director said.

He also said that it would be in the fitness of things if the school going children are given an opportunity to have a glimpse and understand the international scenario, its dynamics and India’s position in it.

“To enable the engagement of youth of the country with the G20 in a fruitful manner and understanding the importance of assuming the G20 presidency, it is further suggested to undertake the Model G20 initiative for Higher Secondary Schools,” DSEK said.

It also said that under this initiative, students can model the functioning and proceedings of G20 meetings, and produce a communiqué, paper or outcome document at their level.

According to the official communique, the most notable papers in this regard can be awarded at the State or UT level even some of these papers can also be recognised nationally, by the Ministry of Education.

“Students may be encouraged to participate in the suggested activities in large number. The school heads are required to visit NCERT or G20 website for the relevant material,” it reads.

DSEK accordingly requested the CEOs of the region to ask their school heads of Higher Secondary Schools to conduct the activities on priority and apprise this office accordingly—(KNO)
