Srinagar, June 18 :

A couple of weeks ahead of Amarnath Yatra, light snowfall occurred at the cave and its adjacent areas including Panjtarni here in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Meanwhile, rains lashed Kashmir Valley plains on Saturday bringing down temperatures.

MeT has forecast inclement weather during the next 24 hours.

Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that before the commencement of the Yatra on June 30 this month, there was a light snowfall in and around the Amarnath cave. They said that the weather is erratic and it will be so till June 21.

They said Amarnath cave recorded 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation on the ground.

An official camping near Baltal said that all arrangements have been made for the pilgrims.

The 43-day-long Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to start on June 30 from the twin routes – the traditional 48-km Nunwan in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam and the 14-km shorter Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal.

Over 2.5 lakh Yatris have registered for the pilgrimage so far. (KNT)
