Baramulla : Powerful wind storm swept through various areas of Baramulla district before noon, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The roof of Abdul Hameed Sheikh’s house in Heaven Sheeri Narwavwas mercilessly ripped off by the ferocious winds, while in Fidarpura Rafiabad, two sheds suffered a similar fate. Despite the intensity of the winds, no casualties have been reported from the district.

However, amidst the chaos, one unfortunate incident occurred in Kreree Wagora, where a woman sustained injuries due to the impact of the wind. Identified as Naseema Begum, wife of Abdul Majeed Mir and resident of Kreree, she has been swiftly shifted to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for advanced medical treatment.

The havoc wreaked by the strong winds extended beyond structural damage. Reports from Singhpura, Hanjiveera, and Baramulla along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway revealed the uprooting of large trees, disrupting traffic flow for several hours. Additionally, in Kareri, approximately 25 houses bore the brunt of the wind’s fury as their roofs were blown off.

Meanwhile, closer to the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, reports continue to pour in of damaged roofs and properties. Wasim Ahmed’s house in Old Town Baramulla suffered the wrath of the wind, resulting in severe damage to the first story of the building.

In a separate incident near Kanthbagh, Medical College Baramulla, a falling tree caused a widespread power outage in the area, affecting hospital operations and leaving a significant portion of the locality without electricity. Despite concerted efforts by the Electricity Department and the Army, power restoration remains elusive. Tragically, a lineman from the Electricity Department was also injured in the rescue and restoration efforts.

As the district grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster, authorities are working tirelessly to assess the extent of the damage and provide relief to affected residents. The resilience of the community shines through as they come together to support one another in this time of adversity.
