NEW DELHI, OCTOBER,10 :
Three senior leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) were detained by Delhi Police shortly after arriving in the national capital on Saturday ahead of demonstrations planned by the party later in the day.
According to CJP leaders, police personnel entered the aircraft after it landed and took into custody Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka before they could leave the airport.
The detentions came ahead of the party’s scheduled protests at various locations in the city.
In a statement, the CJP condemned the action, describing it as an “authoritarian” and “pre-planned interception” intended to prevent its leaders from participating in the demonstrations. The party alleged that the move was aimed at disrupting its organisational activities and weakening the planned protest programme.
The party further termed the detentions a violation of the constitutional right to freedom of movement and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the three leaders.
Delhi Police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the detentions.
Further details are awaited.
