SRINAGAR , DECEMBER ,25 :
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today conducted surprise inspections of premier Health Institutions in Srinagar to gain firsthand knowledge of the facilities and services being provided to patients and their attendants.
Chief Minister visited One of the top orthopedic healthcare facilities in the region, the Bone & Joint Hospital in Barzulla, was among the facilities he visited. During his inspection ,He toured various sections and wards, engaging with patients and attendants to better understand their concerns.
Chief Minister was Accompanied by Minister of Health, Sakeena Itoo, senior faculty members, and doctors, He interacted with hospital staff to assess winter arrangements, treatment facilities, and the availability of medical professionals and paramedics. He also inspected the state-of-the-art additional block of the hospital, constructed under the Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP) with funding from the World Bank. This block, designed with earthquake-resilient technology, will add 160 beds, increasing the hospital’s total capacity from 150 to 310. He emphasized the urgency of completing the new block by January 2025 to address the space crunch caused by a fire incident in 2022 that reduced the hospital’s original capacity to 200 beds. The swift operationalization of this block is crucial for enhancing patient care and serving the public.
Chief Minister Umar Abdulla also visited the 500-bedded Children’s Hospital in Bemina, where he engaged with patients, attendants, and hospital staff. Attendees from remote areas expressed concerns about the lack of accommodations, prompting CM to direct the authorities to construct a Sarai to alleviate their difficulties.
The hospital staff also highlighted challenges in expanding super-specialty facilities due to limited space. He assured them that this issue would be prioritized and promised to address the shortage of medical staff, including doctors and paramedics, not only at this hospital but across the region. Mudassar Shahmiri also accompanied the CM on the visits.
