Academicians, educationists and alumni recall his exemplary leadership, academic contributions and lasting legacy in higher education during condolence meeting in Baramulla
Baramulla, June 20:
The Varmul College Alumni Association (VCAA) organized a condolence meeting at Hotel Affarwat, Nanak Bhawan, Baramulla, to pay heartfelt tributes to Prof. Mohammad Sayeed Ashai, former Principal of Government Degree College Baramulla, who passed away on June 17, 2026.
The meeting was attended by prominent academicians, former college principals, educationists, social activists, and members of the alumni fraternity from across the Valley. The participants expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Prof. Ashai and remembered him as an outstanding academician, visionary administrator, and a man of great integrity and humility.
During the meeting, the speakers highlighted the invaluable contribution of Prof. Ashai towards the academic growth and overall development of Government Degree College Baramulla and higher education institutions in the Valley. They recalled his dedicated service as Principal of the college from August 26, 1974, to April 22, 1978, during which he played a significant role in strengthening academic standards, maintaining discipline, and ensuring excellence in educational administration.
The participants described Prof. Ashai as a distinguished personality whose commitment, sincerity, and leadership left a lasting impact on the academic community. They termed his demise a great loss to the educational fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir.
Special prayers were offered for eternal peace to the departed soul, and the gathering prayed to Almighty Allah to grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and give strength and patience to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
The condolence meeting concluded with Dua-e-Maghfirat and the passing of a formal condolence resolution.
Prof. Mohammad Ismail, President of VCAA, presided over the meeting.
