NC Leadership Practising Double Standards on Statehood Issue: Sunil Sharma

Srinagar, June 17 :

Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Wednesday accused the National Conference leadership of adopting double standards on the issue of statehood, saying Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s actions and statements were contradictory.

Speaking to Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) on the sidelines of a programme commemorating 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the longest-serving Prime Minister of India at Amar Singh Club here, Sharma said that Omar Abdullah recently shared dinner with the Prime Minister in New Delhi and described the meeting as cordial and productive, but upon returning to Kashmir, began talking about holding protests in Delhi over the restoration of statehood.

“This reflects the double standards of the National Conference leadership. On one hand, they praise the meeting with the Prime Minister, and on the other, they seek to create political drama over the statehood issue,” Sharma said.

The BJP leader further said that if Omar Abdullah chooses to protest in Delhi for statehood, he would launch a protest outside the Civil Secretariat against what he termed as the failures of the National Conference government.

He alleged that the NC had promised employment opportunities to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir during elections but failed to fulfil its commitments.

“The government promised jobs to unemployed youth, but instead outsourced nearly 24,000 posts. This exposes their corruption, broken promises and complete disregard for the aspirations of unemployed youth,” Sharma alleged.

He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve accountability and answers from the government rather than what he described as double-faced politics.

“The people want governance, transparency and fulfilment of promises, not political theatrics,” Sharma added. (KNB)
