Crime Branch Uncovers Recruitment Fraud; Accused Allegedly Issued Forged Appointment Letters, ID Cards and Police Verification Documents to Dupe Job Seekers

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against three persons for their alleged involvement in a fake government recruitment racket in which unsuspecting job aspirants were allegedly duped of ₹23 lakh on the false promise of securing government employment.
According to officials, the chargesheet has been presented before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 01/2026, registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) following the completion of the investigation.
The accused have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh alias Gulzar, son of Abdul Aziz Sheikh, a resident of Palpora, Pamposh Colony, Noor Bagh, Srinagar; Mohammad Yousuf Wani, son of Abdul Ahad Wani, a resident of Kunzer in Baramulla district; and Mohammad Abdullah Mir, son of Abdul Gaffar Mir, a resident of Shivath, Tehsil Sumbal, Sonawari, Bandipora district.
As per the Crime Branch, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the prime accused lured victims by assuring them of government jobs in exchange for huge sums of money. To make the fraudulent offers appear authentic, the accused allegedly issued forged appointment orders, fake identity cards, fabricated licences, counterfeit appointment letters and forged Police and CID verification documents.
Investigators stated that the probe established the allegations as genuine and revealed that all three accused had allegedly acted in conspiracy with one another to cheat the complainants and unlawfully obtain their hard-earned money through fraudulent means.
Following the collection of documentary evidence and completion of all legal formalities, the Economic Offences Wing filed the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has urged members of the public to remain alert against individuals or groups offering government jobs in exchange for money and advised citizens to verify the authenticity of recruitment processes through official channels. People who fall victim to such economic frauds have been asked to immediately report the matter to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, or submit complaints through the official email designated by the Crime Branch.
