New Delhi, June 5:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that the Centre will not tolerate demographic changes caused by illegal infiltration in border states such as West Bengal, Tripura and Bihar, describing the issue as a serious challenge to national security.
Addressing a public gathering and speaking on concerns related to illegal immigration, Shah said the government is committed to identifying and addressing what he termed “unnatural demographic changes” in several parts of the country. He emphasized that infiltration poses significant security, social and economic challenges and requires a coordinated national response.
The Home Minister revealed that the Central Government has constituted a high-level committee, headed by a retired judge, to examine demographic changes resulting from illegal immigration and other factors. The committee has been tasked with studying the issue and recommending appropriate measures to safeguard national interests.
Shah reiterated that the government is strengthening border security and enhancing surveillance mechanisms to curb illegal cross-border movement. He stressed that demographic imbalance caused by infiltration cannot be ignored and that firm action will be taken wherever necessary.
The Union Minister’s remarks come amid growing political debate over illegal immigration and demographic trends in several eastern and northeastern states. He maintained that protecting the country’s borders and preserving demographic stability remain key priorities of the government.
Shah also underlined that the Centre will continue to pursue policies aimed at strengthening national security while ensuring that illegal infiltration is effectively checked across vulnerable border regions.(KNC)
