Jabalpur, June 5:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Chief Engineer-II (Construction) of the West Central Railway in a bribery case for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a contractor.
According to a CBI press release issued on Friday, the agency registered the case on June 4, 2026, following a complaint alleging that the railway official had demanded an undue advantage of ₹1,00,000 for releasing a security deposit, clearing pending bills, and processing PVC dues amounting to nearly ₹1 crore related to contract work.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.
During subsequent searches, the agency recovered unaccounted cash amounting to ₹62,000 from the accused’s guest house room. In addition, incriminating documents related to investments in real estate were seized during searches conducted at his residence.
The arrested official was produced before the competent court in Jabalpur on June 5, 2026. The CBI stated that further investigation into the case is underway.
The action is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption and ensure accountability in public offices.
