Bijbehara, Sept 14th :

In a serious incident raising questions over conduct within the police ranks, a police constable was arrested after allegedly ramming his vehicle into a Station House Officer (SHO) near the Bijbehara police station in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district late Sunday night, officials said.

The incident occurred while SHO Majid Ahmad Khan was performing official duty near the police station. The officer sustained injuries after being struck by the vehicle and was subsequently rushed for medical treatment.

The accused constable has been identified as SG Constable Khurshid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Abdullah Wani, a resident of Bindoo, Kokernag. Police arrested him in connection with the incident and seized the alleged offending vehicle, an Alto bearing registration number JK16A-3739.

Following the incident, the injured SHO was taken to SDH Bijbehara for immediate medical attention. He was later referred to the Bone and Joint Hospital in Srinagar for further treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and authorities are examining the sequence of events that led to the alleged collision.

Further investigation is underway, officials said.
