V.K. Birdi Directs Strengthening of Checkpoints, Night Surveillance, Area Domination and Patrolling

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi-IPS, on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess the overall security situation and review arrangements for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations and other scheduled events across the Kashmir Valley.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces, intelligence agencies, security formations, traffic police and other concerned departments. Among those present were IG BSF Frontier Headquarters Kashmir, IG CRPF Kashmir Operations Sector, IG CRPF Srinagar, DIG SSB Srinagar, DIG CID Kashmir, all Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police of Kashmir Zone, DIG Traffic Kashmir, DIG IR and Armed Police Kashmir, senior CRPF officers, DIG ITBP Srinagar, DIG Railway Protection Force Kashmir, SSP PCR Kashmir and all district Superintendents of Police of Kashmir Zone.
Senior officers from 15 Corps, Railway Police, Traffic Police, CID, Security Kashmir, SDRF, Special Branch, intelligence agencies and various city and district police formations also participated in the meeting.
At the outset, IGP Kashmir was briefed about the prevailing security scenario and the arrangements put in place for the smooth, peaceful and incident-free conduct of Independence Day celebrations and other events scheduled across the Valley.
The District Superintendents of Police briefed the IGP about the preparations and security arrangements being made in their respective districts. The arrangements included security deployment, surveillance, route security, access control and measures aimed at maintaining law and order during the celebrations.
Security at Bakshi Stadium Reviewed
During the meeting, IGP Kashmir reviewed the security arrangements for various events planned across Kashmir, including rallies and other public programmes. Specific responsibilities were assigned to the concerned officers to ensure effective coordination and timely completion of all security preparations.
The security arrangements for the main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, were also reviewed in detail.
IGP Kashmir directed the officers concerned to further strengthen security measures at and around the venue and ensure comprehensive arrangements covering all critical points, access routes and surrounding areas.
Focus on Night Checkpoints and Vulnerable Areas
V.K. Birdi directed the participating officers to strengthen security checkpoints, particularly during night hours, at vulnerable locations and along important entry and exit routes of Srinagar city.
He stressed the need for increased vigilance at sensitive locations and directed officers to ensure that security arrangements remain effective throughout the day and night.
The IGP also called for intensified area domination and patrolling, particularly in sensitive and vulnerable areas, to maintain a strong security presence and strengthen surveillance.
Enhanced Surveillance and Inter-Agency Coordination
The IGP emphasized the need for strict vigilance against elements inimical to peace and security and called upon all officers to maintain a high level of alertness within their respective jurisdictions.
He stressed the importance of close coordination among the police, Central Armed Police Forces, intelligence agencies and other security formations for effective information sharing and timely response to any emerging security challenge.
Officers were directed to ensure that all necessary preparations are completed well in advance and that security protocols are implemented effectively at all important venues, routes and vulnerable locations.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to heightened vigilance, enhanced surveillance, strengthened security arrangements and seamless inter-agency coordination to ensure the peaceful, safe and orderly conduct of Independence Day celebrations and other scheduled events across the Kashmir Valley.(KNC)
