Kupwara, Jan 05 :

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Yougal Manhas on Thursday said that seven pistols and 12 KG heroin worth Rs 12 crore which were being shifted from across the border in Karnah area of Kupwara district have been recovered in first five days of the new year.

“Since the beginning of this year, during three different joint operations launched by security forces including police and Army, seven pistols and 12-KG of heroin have been recovered while four people have been also arrested and search for others is ongoing,” the Kupwara police chief said while addressing the media.

“Since the Karnah area is very close to the line of control (LOC) and some villages are beyond the fence so somehow they establish contact across the border through which smuggling is being done but our intelligence grid is much stronger in busting the same,” he added.

“Through the joint efforts of security forces, we have succeeded to some extent in curbing it,” he said, adding that the international market value of heroin which has been recovered in this year so far is 12 crore.

About today’s SIU raid, he also said that the State Investigation Unit (SIU) have raided the houses of seven militants who are currently operating from Pakistan and from there they are trying to radicalise the youth here besides they are trying to increase cross-border infiltration as well.
