Baramulla, July 3:

National Conference (NC) MLA from Baramulla, Javid Hassan Beigh on Thursday announced that the party will launch a sustained democratic protest campaign at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on the first day of the forthcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament to press for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing Khaitagan Baramaulla said the decision has been taken by the top leadership of the National Conference to remind the Government of India of its repeated commitment to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

He said senior party leaders, including office-bearers up to the Provincial President level, will participate in the protest at Jantar Mantar.

“The Government of India has assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir, both inside and outside Parliament, that statehood will be restored. It is now high time for the Centre to fulfil its promise. The restoration of statehood cannot be delayed any further,” Beigh said.

He said the protest at Jantar Mantar would mark the beginning of a sustained, peaceful and democratic movement. The campaign, he added, aims to remind the Centre of its commitment and seek the restoration of the democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Beigh further announced that the National Conference will hold a massive protest convention in Srinagar on July 11, after which the movement will be expanded to all district headquarters and later to the village level across Jammu and Kashmir to mobilise public support for the demand.

He asserted that the entire agitation would remain peaceful, democratic and constitutional.

Meanwhile, Beigh also announced that former District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Safeena Beigh will formally join the National Conference on July 8. He said her joining would further strengthen the party’s organisational base and public outreach in north Kashmir.

Reiterating the party’s resolve, Beigh urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support the peaceful movement, stating that the National Conference would continue its democratic struggle until the Centre fulfils its commitment to restore statehood.
