IGP Chairs High-Level Security Review Meeting; Directs Enhanced Night Patrolling, Dynamic Nakas, Intelligence-Based Operations and Robust Protection of Highways, Railways & Critical Infrastructure Ahead of Upcoming Events

Reaffirming the commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies to maintain lasting peace and public safety, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, on Monday declared that peace in the Valley would be protected at all costs and that no anti-national or anti-social element would be allowed to disrupt normalcy.
Chairing a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir, IGP Birdi conducted a comprehensive assessment of the prevailing security situation across the Valley and reviewed preparedness ahead of forthcoming events. He directed officers to remain on maximum alert, strengthen the counter-insurgency grid, intensify intelligence-based operations and ensure foolproof security arrangements across all districts.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), CID, Traffic Police, Security Wing, Army and other security agencies, reflecting a coordinated multi-agency approach towards maintaining peace and stability.
During the meeting, senior officers briefed the IGP on the existing security scenario, operational challenges and preventive measures being undertaken in their respective jurisdictions. A detailed review was conducted on recent security developments, threat perception and the overall preparedness of security forces to effectively respond to any emerging challenge.
Stressing the need for constant vigilance, IGP Birdi directed all district and range officers to regularly review and strengthen existing security mechanisms while ensuring close coordination among all security agencies for an effective and proactive security response.
He laid particular emphasis on safeguarding vital public infrastructure, including National Highways, railway tracks, railway stations and other strategically important installations. Officers were instructed to further enhance security deployments, establish dynamic nakas at vulnerable locations, intensify area domination exercises and increase foot patrolling, especially during night hours and along inter-district boundaries.
The IGP also directed officers to strengthen surveillance around critical infrastructure and sensitive locations to prevent any attempt aimed at disturbing public peace or targeting civilians. He emphasized that preventive policing and visible security presence should remain the cornerstone of the Valley’s security strategy.
Calling for intensified intelligence gathering, Birdi instructed district police chiefs to maintain strict surveillance over anti-national and anti-social elements, conduct intelligence-led operations and take proactive measures against individuals attempting to create law and order disturbances.
He also directed officers to closely monitor social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation, rumours and malicious content that could adversely affect public peace, communal harmony or security. He stressed the importance of prompt verification and appropriate action against those found misusing digital platforms to incite unrest.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to further strengthen inter-agency coordination, enhance operational readiness and implement comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful, secure and incident-free atmosphere across Kashmir ahead of the forthcoming events.(KNC)
