Srinagar, Jan 23: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, tight security arrangements have been put in place across Kashmir valley with additional security personnel being deployed on highways and vital road links to thwart any untoward incident in the region.
As per news police and paramilitary personnel manning vulnerable spots have been seen asking for identity cards and frisking the belongings of the people in Srinagar and other district headquarters in Valley for the last few days.
With the main function in Jammu and Kashmir to take place in Jammu and presided over by Jammu and Kashmir incumbent Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, a function on somewhat similar lines will be held at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar The day will also be marked in all district headquarters across the Valley.
Briefing about the security arrangements, IGP Kashmir V.K Birdi told news agency Kashmir Scroll that in order to see smooth and peaceful celebrations in the valley, the police and other security personnel have been carrying out intense sanitisation and area domination exercises in length and breadth of Valley.
“A three-tier security arrangement is in place as human intelligence, security forces are using the latest technology including high-end drones and vehicles mounted with CCTV cameras to keep a close vigil on the things”, the police officer said.
“The SSPs have also been directed to keep watch in respective areas to thwart any untoward incident”, he said. Meanwhile, a full-dress rehearsal is scheduled to be carried out at all venues across the Valley tomorrow (Wednesday).
