Srinagar, Jan 30 :
The sighting of the Shaban-ul-Muazzam crescent in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening, has marked the beginning of the countdown to Ramadan.
Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, told Prism Post (PP) that his office received multiple credible testimonies from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir confirming the moon sighting.
“Based on these verified reports, we declare Friday as the first day of Shabaan-ul-Muazzam,” Nasir-ul-Islam stated, adding that Shab-e-Baraat will be observed on the night of February 14.
Shabaan-ul-Muazzam, the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds great significance as it precedes Ramadan. The 15th night of this month, known as Shab-e-Baraat, is regarded as a night of prayer, reflection, and seeking forgiveness. Many Muslims spend the night engaging in supplications, remembering their deceased loved ones, and performing acts of charity. (PP)
