Allegedly Promised SPO Job, Pahalgam Tent Permission in Exchange for Money; FIR Registered

Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have registered a case against a political leader for allegedly cheating a person of ₹8.25 lakh on the pretext of arranging a Special Police Officer (SPO) job and securing permission to install tents at Pahalgam during the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
According to a police handout, the accused has been identified as Aabid Hussain Nengroo, who is described by the police as a political leader.
Police said that the complainant alleged that Nengroo had taken ₹8.25 lakh from him after assuring him that he would arrange an SPO position and facilitate permission for setting up tents at Pahalgam during the Amarnath Yatra.
However, the police said, the promised job and permission were not provided despite the payment, prompting the complainant to approach the police and lodge a complaint.
Taking cognizance of the allegations, police registered FIR No. 283/2026 at Police Station Anantnag under relevant sections of law.
The case has been taken up for investigation, and police said that further investigation is underway to ascertain the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction.
Police have not disclosed further details regarding the investigation at this stage.
