Baramulla, July 15: A series of thefts reported from Sheeri , Fatehgarh village Narvaw area over the past few weeks has sparked concern among residents, who are urging the police to intensify investigations and restore public confidence.

According to local residents, at least three major theft incidents have been reported within the last 15 days, raising fears over the security situation in the area.

In one of the incidents, an Eeco van belonging to Mohammad Ramzan Bhat was allegedly stolen during the night at Tangpora Sheeri. In another case, gold jewellery and other valuables worth nearly ₹20 lakh were reportedly stolen from the residence of Fayaz Ahmed Bhat of Sheeri.

On Wednesday, unidentified thieves allegedly targeted Islamia Arbia Dar-ul-Uloom Sheeri, decamping with cash from the institution’s donation box.
In separate burglary incidents, a laptop, clothes and other household belongings were reportedly stolen from the residence of Tahira Akhter, wife of late Hamid Ali Lone , while gold jewellery and household utensils of Fatehgarh were allegedly stolen from the residence of Bilal Ahmed Sheikh of Fatehgarh.

The repeated incidents have created an atmosphere of fear among residents of Sheeri, Fatehgarh and adjoining Narvaw villages, who expressed concern over what they described as a disturbing rise in property-related crimes.

Residents have appealed to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla and the Station House Officer (SHO) Sheeri to expedite investigations, identify those responsible and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice at the earliest. They said prompt action would help restore confidence among the public and deter further criminal activities.

Meanwhile, locals have also urged the public to remain vigilant by securing their homes, vehicles, shops and valuables, and to immediately report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station.

Police says they have started investigation regarding the incidents till the filing of this report. The investigations are underway.
